Wootton sits between Bedford and the Marston Vale, and we work right across it: Stewartby, Kempston Hardwick, Marston Moretaine, Lidlington, Cranfield, Wilstead, Houghton Conquest, Elstow, Kempston, Biddenham and Bromham. Further south we also cover Ampthill and Flitwick, and north of the river it's all Bedford.

We're in Bedford, about ten minutes up the road, and we come out for the first conversation rather than doing the whole thing by email. Seeing the yard, the van and the actual work tells us more than any questionnaire would.

QUESTIONS

  • Should my site say Wootton or Bedford? Both, in different places. The village names belong where you list what you cover and on the page about your area. Bedford belongs in the main description. What doesn't work is repeating one town twenty times, which search engines have ignored for about fifteen years.
  • Won't targeting a village just get me fewer customers? Fewer searches, more of them yours. Being on page one for something small beats page eight for something big, and the village searches tend to come from people who want someone nearby today.
  • How long until it shows up in search? Weeks for the site to be indexed, months before position settles. Anyone who gives you a date is guessing. What we can do is build it so it has a fair chance and set the Business Profile up pointing at the right pages.
  • How much does it cost? Either £49 a month with nothing up front, or £500 once for a site built and handed over. Bigger one-off builds land between £500 and £1,500. The number comes in writing before any work starts.
  • Do I have to pay a deposit? No. We build it first. You pay once it's done and you're happy with it, which puts the risk on us rather than you.
  • Do I actually own the site? Yes, outright. The domain stays in your name, and if you ever want to move it elsewhere you can take the files and go. No part of it is rented back to you.
