CONCEPT 07 ◦ KENNELS & PET SHOP
DOVART
KENNELS
THE PROBLEM
A family-run pet shop and boarding kennels in Millbrook since 1986. The website was made in 2013 with desktop software that is no longer sold, on a fixed canvas 1,340 pixels wide, so on a phone the whole page shrinks to fit and the text is too small to read.
Booking a stay meant piecing the rules together from several pages and then phoning. The pages were named page3 to page8, and the pamper price list wasn't linked from the menu at all.
WHAT WE DID
The look came straight off their old header: pale yellow above a navy rule, and the same Goudy serif as the Dovart name.
- A stay planned on a postcard. The dog's stay written as a sentence, checked against their real rules (closed on Sundays and bank holidays, the drop-off windows, the deposit), then sent to the kennels as a ready-written email. No booking software to pay for.
- Open today, live. A line under the headline says whether the shop and the kennels are open right now, in UK time.
- The rooms as a register. Standard kennel, luxury kennel and suite, each with the sizes of dog it takes.
- Brands on shelf tickets, offers on stamp cards. The shop and the loyalty scheme, set the way you'd see them at the counter.
- Their photos, not stock ones. The stock puppy and kitten strip is gone. What's left is the kennels, the grounds and the shop.
- Every old link still works. Each page3.html address redirects to its new page, so nothing Google already knows about breaks.
THE RESULT
Somebody planning a holiday can check the dates, see the rooms and send a booking request from their phone without ringing first. The wording, the rules, the rooms and the photographs are all Dovart's own.
Dovart Pet Supplies & Boarding Kennels didn't commission this, so it's shown as a concept: a design we built unprompted to show what their site could be, using their own wording and photographs.
